Hated cold beer, now can't drink anything else.
Hated numbered streets (1st Ave, 2nd Ave, etc) - now appreciate the simplicity
Ditto for grid layout!
Hated automatic transmissions ... now I can't conceive of why anyone would drive a 'stick'.
Hated the tea here - still do, but now love coffee even more so don't need the tea
Love the bacon now, as long as it's burned to a crisp!

First liked being asked about my accent and where I was from... now I groan (in my head to remain polite)

First liked all the cheap fast food opportunities... now crave decent food that doesn't cost a fortune.

I know that does wear thin very quickly as every supermarket checkout seems to end up in a long explanation of my life story!

You can. I was at breakfast in a Holiday Inn Express in Marathon, FL this past week and immediately noticed 3 "out of place" tourists. Naturally they were all British. Something in the clothing, that British face and demeanor that stands out among the sea of hyped up, large family "soccer mom" Americans.

Hey, I am proud of my NHS teeth! 32 filling-less pearlies, all straight and no gaps thanks to free orthodontics.

Isn't that British teeth stereotype getting a bit outdated now? My parents both have mouths full of metal, although I think that's more down to ignorance on their parents' part (orange squash to drink at bedtime and that sort of thing) than the NHS.

Dental hygiene wasn't as important then...when I was a child we only went to the dentist when we had toothache.

Nobody believes me that over that in England, you don't get endless re-fills on pop!
Gosh, that bad-teeth stereotype might just shift towards Americans a little bit nowadays?

Hi, the food items you listed that you will miss are available to you here in the States, it is the places you shop that will depend on their availability on hand.
There are several threads on the forum that list the places other BE posters found such desired items, Bread you get from a local bakery and not the grocery store, most cities have several Ethnic bakery's. I buy the most beautiful White Irish aged cheddar from my local Albertson's grocery store. Most Malls I have been to have gourmet coffee & tea shops to pick and choose from, more and more grocery stores are stalking up on British Condiments/ Sauces/Teas/ Marmite/ Maggi / I guess it just boils down to where you live, The closest to British style bacon here that is readily available is what we call Canadian Bacon, but from a few of the threads I have read on here, several posters have found places to order that from...I wish you luck on your move, Remember the US is no better or worse then the UK, it is just different. Please do not think Americans are phony with the daily pleasantries and niceties,It just how we are programmed and mean no harm nor intend to be fake, we smile and compliment you on your accent and are at most optimistic to the point of irritation to the average Brit..lol.... I am almost sure there is more to follow..... That optimism again..Heheh

AC....to begin love, loved it to bits....It's still something you need, but I no longer love it....the crunchy dry nose and electric bills have put me off it

Doesn't help the missus wants it a bit chilly in here and I'm content at leaving it at 80F
