It's a front wheel drive but the weight tip is a fab one. I usually carry a bale of hay in the car so I'll make sure I just leave it there instead of taking it inside the barn.

Better make that a couple of bales, each side. There's a lot of snow where you are.

Sorry to hear about your back Sibsie, if you cant shovel how about asking around to see if theres a teen who will shovel for pocket money ?? I can understand the thing with local roads, we live in a rural area too the plows dont go past too often and the local township have a policy of not salting so our roads are often snow covered or slushy which makes driving interesting.

Do you know, everytime I watch the Weather Channel, I always think to myself "why on earth does anyone live in Michigan?". Maybe you can enlighten me!

Because hubby lives here no other reason. He outright refuses to move anywhere south, he wont even entertain the idea of visiting Florida, We visited Grand Rapids (200 miles south) this summer which was nice, the kids flew into GR airport so it gave me an excuse to drag him south.
We do get rather alot of snow, but it doesnt last for ever and the summers here are wonderful. Lake Michigan is so clear and you can even swim in it by late August !
ohhh what else ?? hmm the locals are friendly, the summer visitors are bearable, cost of living isnt too extortionate, we live in a relatively safe area which is a blessing as we still dont have keys for the doors to our home. ummm think thats about it ... take a lookie at our site www.dog-berry.com and see for yourselves

ohhh p.s. hes promised me a birthday trip to San Fransisco ... will probably be a bit late as Feb isnt a great time to be travelling ... wooohooooo !!

Mr Sibsie is the same way with New England. Of course he gets to fly to all sorts of lovely and warm places every week as I just pointed out to him when he called from Antigua!

I have heard great things about Michigan though. I do like where I live now. This is my first winter and I spend a lot of time outdoors so it's taking some getting used to, especially having moved here from Spain.

I love your website! You're right...it's breathtakingly beautiful. I better not show Deb those pics or she'll want to move in with you! It's very idyllic I must say, and you house is gorgeous. Charlie's a sweetie too! I can see why you live there now. It's only the weatherman putting me off. I thought it was cold in New England but I know that's nothing like the sort of temps you get. You're very brave!

I drove from Chapel Hill to Virginia Beach through the storm on Sunday evening. It was a fiasco from start to finish. Between rednecks careening off the road into ditches, barriers, and one another, to my wife screeching "slow down" in my earhole every half a minute, it was one of the most unbearable journeys of my life.

Your hubby reminds me of countless Michigan/Wisconsiners who complain of 'bad winters' being those w/ less than 120'' of snow. Most no doubt are diehard snowmobilers and ice-fisherman.

I suppose it is all about perspective- turning lemons into lemonade so to speak.

Ah, you've met the NC locals who "drive". Ain't no fun driving with these locals, is it?

It's probably best for everyone when they slide off the road, don't you think?

Apparently my car has all weather tyres. I'm going to have to rethink the whole shovelling thing. I've got arthritis of the spine, three slipped discs and am having a spinal fusion next month, so it was agony trying to get the snow out of the way.

The good part of it is that I met one of my neighbours. She's off the boat Irish and a real hoot. We're going to call it a day, abandon all our plans and head to her house with a ton of booze.
Sibsie, I had no idea you had such a bad back. The spinal fusion will help, I'm sure, a friend of mine had it done a few years ago and never has back problems nowadays. Hope it all goes well. Ignore those who say it's dumb not to have snow tyres. I would just get plastered in your Irish neighbour's house for a few days!

To be honest nor did until they did the MRI and I saw the surgeon. had a bad riding accident when I was a teenager and I've had back probs on and off since. It's definately worse in the cold but even that fact hasn't convinced Mr Sibsie that we need to move further south.

There's still a ton of snow here but the great news is that my FIL who's been here since Christmas Day has finally decided to go home! Hoorah.
