Slaters in the states...
...and no, not the creepy crawly type
Any ex Scottish Central belters know of a place in NJ or NYC like Slater's menswear? Am on the hunt for somewhere that can measure a gent and get the perfect fit for him without it being a totally high end place
Any and all help appreciated as always

A British tailor would be high-end, but you may find some perfectly competent Asians who trained the same way. Remember the reputation of Hong Kong! Ask around at Asian-owned businesses and see if they know anyone.

Some of the regular old department stores like Macys still have little old men with tapes around their necks hidden in basements.

I'm still wondering what a "creepy crawly type" slater is
Ps...I live in shorts and t-shirts now...not needed a real tailor since we arrived here. I know a couple of good ones in Singapore and Hong Kong though.....

I take my shirts and trousers to what would be commonly called a 'Dry Cleaners' or just 'Cleaners' here - eg http://www.yelp.com/biz/hosanna-1hr-...s-walnut-creek . In most of the ones I've used over the years, they have someone who does basic repairs and/or, they will refer you to someone locally that does. I recently needed a bunch of adjustments made, and I was referred to a fantastic little old Asian lady in a strip mall who did a bang-up job for a very reasonable price. So I'd approach your local 'cleaners' as a start.
