Saying that, I have been in Texas for 20 years and I still sound like an old Essex girl...........

I was told you sound like Geo. W. Bush:p

Up Chelsea, right up:rofl: Go QPR

And I don't mean Chelsea Clinton, either.

"Camron" is the BBC R4 way of saying it...except for 1 or 2 Scots broadcasters, all the others say it the same way that the Aussies do.

(I've not heard this name being used in the USA, I'm sure that it is, but I've not been aware of it.)

The name is more popular for girls in my neck of the woods anyway.

Gosh! I guess that's like the name Kelly. In the USA, it used to only be a boy's name. Also, maybe Riley. Now it's girls and boys.

As a yank I would really like to ask this question....(if you all don't mind please)...

Why do you say al-oo-min-ee-um?

It's spelled aluminum. There's no 'i' after the 'n'.

I really don't understand this. Most of the time, you all pronounce words the way they are spelled - properly. This one baffles me....:p

and actually aluminium is the scientifically correct way of spelling and pronouncing it, even in america (since 1950 I think, though not sure). But the american people continued calling it aluminum. Just like they continued using inches, feet, fahrenheit etc... :)

They ain't broke, they don't need fixing.

It appears that aluminum and aluminium have equal claim to being correct according to this

I say "bangs" instead of fringe, absolutely hate the sound of the word bangs but it makes my life so much easier!!!

After what seemed like a lifetime finding my perfect hairdresser in the UK, I had my first appointment in an American hair salon, i was so nervous incase she cut me baldy i felt sick. I chickened out and told her that i only wanted a trim, then she said "do you do your own bangs" then i felt sick even more, i thought she was being rude, hadn't a clue what she was talking about, lol, so i looked at her through the mirror trying to not look dumb and replied "oh, you do them" What an experience!

A bit of background...I'm from California, my wife is Thai, our daughter was born in Thailand, but has so far lived most of her life here in New Zealand. She can't speak more than a smidgen of Thai (my wife will only speak English with her, dunno why). My daughter's accent is close to mine, kind of a neutral bland West Coast California accent. My daughter has just started intermediate school and they have put her in the ESOL class, ESOL being English as a Second or Other Language. Perhaps this is because she says fish and chips instead of the proper Kiwi fush 'n' chups.
