Just as well you're not here in the PNW.... I can count two, under one mile from here and both in the same shopping center.... Now that they're in grocery stores and Target you can find one everywhere....

Yep, that's the only solution to the overcrowding problem - a mass cull. I think that's what these guys secretly have in mind.....

The first time that happened to me I'd been intending to tip and elected to remove the tip purely because I was so annoyed at such a blatent attempt to shame people into tipping - it's a lot harder to remove a tip than simply not add one.
Yeah I hate that too! They seem to be doing that at a lot of places.

I have never, ever encountered any expectation of a tip, let alone at a rate of 10-15% or heard this discussed by either professional colleagues or friends. I've seen tipping of perhaps around 10% where the service has been exceptionally good, or just a couple of extra quid thrown in for average service - but never any expectation as such. In my experience it's still perfectly ok not to tip at all in the UK and nobody bats an eyelid (as opposed to the US where I know some people who would have a coronary if you didn't tip even if the server had poured scalding hot soup in you lap and then punched you in the face when you asked for a cloth). UK servers are paid a wage for the service they provide unlike their US counterparts that rely on tipping.

Hmmm. What was the consensus on the last 'hotly debated tipping thread' ? Everyone I know tips 10-15% and as Malashaan says, sometimes the restaurant actually adds it to the bill on chip and pin. If I recall correctly there is usually something saying 'Service not included' on the bill.

True - minimum wage though. There used to be a practice among certain chains - now stopped - whereby they would actually pay the servers well below the minimum wage and make up the difference in their pay with with the pool of tips they had recieved.

I agree. I thought tips and VAT had to be included in the price unless otherwise stated on the menu. Saying that (out of habit of living here) I do usually leave a cash tip on the table.

There was one in the grocery store where we used to live, but it only lasted a few months, couldn't compete with DD around the corner or Panera apparently

To add to the other comments, it's only legal if either the car in front is indicating a right turn, OR, you're in queing traffic - therefore you legally can't overtake an idiot doing 60mph in lane 3 on the motorway by moving into lane 2 - though, of course, most do!

Local Asda pumps have had them for 4+ years now (I only know this since I've lived here for 4 years!). Several others do, not always at every pump though.
