Default Short term car rental

I need a car for 6 months

Any ideas on the best option that will not result in a fleecing?

All the major car rental company's do long term rentals I think your best bet would be BUDGET RENT A CAR, they all give different day rates to the normal daily or week rental rates.

Its still not cheap for 6 months, but depending what you need it for and another option buy a older car for around $2000

You might consider negotiating a deal with a rental car company. Don't use their websites expecting a good deal; negotiate with the manager, instead.

Another option would be to use one of these lease swapping websites to find a private party who is trying to get out from under a car lease. The time periods will vary and the current selection will probably skew toward gas guzzlers, but you may find something that suits you.

Otherwise, you might just want to buy a used car and sell it when you're done. If you buy a well depreciated beater, the net cost may end up being quite low.

Well they do in California up to 6 months and yes your right it has to be renewed every month but it can still be done at a lesser rate.

Probably cheapest: http://www.rent-a-wreck.com/ and if their special offer is anything to go by, they do long term rentals (although the offer doesn't seem that special).

Be my option, too. Something GM-ish for a couple of K.
