We bought a Sony telly over which is dual voltage, just changed the plug, use HDMI for the DVD,PC and Cable box all tickety bo, we had room in our container so it was fine

However I agree with everyone else, don't bother shipping it, flog it on EBay and get a screaming deal here

Exactly.

1. It's a (non OLED) LG. LG are pretty crap in the grand scheme of things, and VERY cheap to purchase here.

2. TV's (even top range ones) are very affordable in the US.

I wouldn't bother with it given the high risk of damage during shipping. Sell it in the UK, and pick up a bargain here (check out Sears outlets, your local Facebook selling pages, Best Buy, Newegg, TigerDirect).

After this rare consensus on BE, perhaps we can work on reaching a similar consensus on the unresolved question of "frontloader v toploader?

No point shipping either of those, I would have thought!

And getting a non US TV repaired in the US may prove to be difficult. I doubt the warranty would be transferable.

"Repair" a TV?

FFS Why would anyone invest even $100 (say, one hour of skilled labour) in even identifying the problem when replacement with a new product only costs a few hundred dollars?

More often than not they manufacturers want to repair products that are not easily shipped. This is quite often done free under the original warranty or extended warranty which is also free with a lot of credit cards.

I agree totally with you. We bought a microwave for $60 from Sears and the repair bill was over $200 . They should have just given us a new unit.

Please don't tell me you ever pay for extended warranties. They are such an utter racket that I am surprised they are still legal!

No, we get 1 year extra warranty with Amex or Citibank credit cards, normally that means 2 years.

I did buy an extended warranty for my car which has more than paid for itself when the sun roof broke. 99 year manufacturer warranty. it does mean that i am reluctant to sell the car because it's covered for as long as I own the car.

Exercising warranty repairs on non-us goods can cause headaches.

I recall reading about this story where a guy bought a TV online that turned out to be a mexican model and he couldn't get it repaired.

I don't know if our TV is a front or top loader, all the buttons are on the side if that helps...

Grey market goods are a real headache. There are several online TV retailers selling grey market TVs. One I remember is Abe's of Maine. They are cheaper than most other stores.
