I will be hiring an international mover for all my furniture and big items but given it can take between 50-95 days for them to arrive I may need to ship some boxes of personal items/clothing etc to the UK so I have it for when I get there. Has anyone done this and what is the easiest/cheapest way?

I think there's a company called Excess Baggage that people have used for small amounts of stuff like this. This question comes up regularly so you might find past threads.

Always check any company against the moving scams Web site.

International movers can typically air-freight things too, so check if your movers can help you. Coming the other way I shipped 1,000cuft in a shipping container, and two trunks by air, all with the same company/shipping agent.

There is no shipping option for regular post office stuff, so it'll be airmail and expensive.

Who you use will be much of muchness. If it's a fair amount, might get a better rate with one of those palette/crate and pack services.
