Personally I think that it would be insane to ship things like beds unless someone else is paying or you find that you have a shipping container with some free space in it.

Nice idea but, unless you ship your beds a couple of months in advance you aren't going to have them during those stressful first few months anyway.

So the beds all went in.

Yep, 6-12 weeks without your own beds. More for a west coast shared container, less for east coast own container. What would the OP sleep in?

Agree with this tip. I recommend a latex bed for a cool sleep in the summer and a warm sleep in the winter months.

*Mrs Q is still commuting to the UK. She is currently loading out the last stuff into ANOTHER container, and the Landrovers into another, and then, finally, she'll move over permanently.

I appreciate it's awkward to ship everything earlier because you still need it, but you're going to be without it at one end or the other, so ship the stuff six weeks before you leave, because the stress where you currently live is going to be easier to cope with than the stress of where you're going to, generally speaking, imo. Or if you've got two beds you can sleep on, ship one bed and leave the other one behind.

It's all so confusing lol - we're moving to California in September - not taking any beds so buying new out there - but I'd like to take some of our nice bedding - single beds and king size beds (UK sizes) will my duvet covers fit ones I buy there? Also, where can you buy decent beds?
PS we thought we'd hire furniture from Corts until ours arrives - has anyone done this?

If you are moving to California you won't have any problems getting nice new beds without any delays....Look for your nearest "Living Spaces" shop and if you order anything by 4pm you can have it delivered and installed on the same day. It was a real god sent for us when we moved to OC!!

Sorry if I've missed something but if we wanted to bring our UK King size bed frame wouldn't a US Queen size mattress fit?
