I don't know about capital gains tax but when it comes to inheritance from the UK, you have the option of paying tax on money / property inherited either in the UK or the US...........ie you only pay tax once

But if your in the US, and you ain't a USC, you'll get a whopping inheritance tax on anything you receive.
