Does anybody know if there is any employment for a chemical engineer or environmental engineer in the area.
or even any general work will do as I am getting bored out of my brain.

You may need a US qualification/licence for that type of work ..
that the first thing you must check

The license and the qualification are good to get employment here, but until my temp work authorisation comes in I wont be able to work legally.
Hence why I was asking if anybody knows of any kind of work that i can do.
Thanks
Paul

http://www.washingtonpost.com actually has a very good job listing area. I also recommend http://www.dice.com for engineering jobs, and http://www.theladders.com for management positions. You might also look in the 270 corridor area for jobs (lots of biotech up there).
As for 'before you are authorized' well you are pretty much out of luck. That's the quickest way to lose your right to work fulltime, regardless of you marital status.
If you are afraid of getting bored, I'd consider using the next few months to take a class somewhere, get a certification in something else, or just explore DC and the museums and learn about US history. You can check http://www.meetup.com to hook up with some folks with similar interests and start networking (essential to finding a good job). There might also be some professional societies of engineers, etc that have meetings and the like for more networking.

EAD, make sure people understand you can work on it, because a lot of people don't understand the whole thing, greencard or nothing, especially when they see a expiration date.
But anyway, networking is the best way...www.linkedin.com any professional organisations you belong too and all that fun stuff....
