The original The Haunting, more psychological than blood and gore, watch this alone in the dark late at night and I guarantee the hairs will be standing up on the back of your neck. They made a remake with Catherine Zeta Jones, which was absolute garbage.
The Exorcist is up there too.

American Werewolf in London.

The opening scene on the moors still gets the heart rate up.

That and a scene from Rawhead Rex where it charges through the farm yard.

I thought 'The Ring' was pretty scary, especially the bit when she comes out of the tv & then moves very fast. I also thought 'The House On Haunted Hill' was scary, but just the bit when the ghosts would make funny noises & shakes their heads really fast.

'IT' & 'Childs Play 3' scared the crap outta me when I watched them, I was 10 years old. Watched a bit of them a few years ago & I couldn't believe I was scared of that crap!!!

there is a really scary scene that involves a man and a sack, when I returned home from work the day after watching it, I found a recreation of the scene with a sack and a wig on the floor, I think it affected the OH deeply

I thought 'Dark Water' was a great movie, yeah it was a bit scary, but it's more a story about a woman dealing with you inner demons & her relationship with her daughter. If I remember correctly, I think I cried at the end.
