I've never found banks especially attractive for savings/investments.
You might take a look at Schwab and Fidelity. They have savings accounts and it's also pretty easy to buy mutual funds, setup retirement accounts and much more. Some minimum investment rules might apply but they're very modest.They both serve millions of customers.

TD Ameritrade has low cost options , I have been looking at the iShares UK fund. These have no fees when bought through TD Ameritrade.
