Salt Lake City, Utah?

Re: Salt Lake City, Utah?
I love Utah, although I'm not sure about living there. First thing to do is find the local liquor store. They all close early, unless you're in Moab, but they have a better beer selection than most places in the east.
Oh yeah. Skiing. Biking. Climbing. Camping. Hiking. If you're in that crowd you'd probably be able to deal with the mormon excess, otherwise.......

Again, what's the skinny on this place? Other than the lake stinks, it's full of religious people and all that...well it ain't that bad right?
Better than Louisiana at least surely?
Again, not another city I'm that eager for, plus no bounce protection, it's another one shot deal which is also scary.

You have visited both places and can make this comment? Please back up this statement.

I haven't been, but my ex travelled there for business and liked it.
I hear the skiing is good, and the scenery is nice.
As for the mormons, there's a fair few here in AZ and I've worked with quite a few because a lot of them are property developers. I've always found them very easy to get along with, although one of them is always giving me gyp about my nasty nicotine habit.

Arsehat? The superior attitude people on the east and west coasts have towards anyone else is stunning. I know, there are exceptions, but by reading the comments on this site, I would say it applies to 90% of BE members. Oh well, have nice day. I wanted to type more, but I would just be put in my Alabama, yokel place.

Either state wouldn't be ideal for me, but they are possibilities, and they aren't ideal because they aren't games hubs, so no bounce effect. Utah has three outfits. Louisiana has one. It's also in the northern tip of the state well away from anywhere remotely familiar.
Would have to be a bloody good job to displace myself and family that far south away from friends and family, but looking into the company, that isn't the case.
And that's why either location would be a bit pants.

I don't care what you think, but if you've info on Utah, that would be great, if you've got info on the northern tip of Louisiana, that would be great too, but in that thread.

Sorry, I get a little defensive of La. Was not born there, but raised in the area around Lafayette. Baton Rouge has an up and coming gaming scene. South Louisiana is very different from North Louisiana. Much more openminded and accepting and more progressive. However, I do hear Shreveport has a great chance of landing the Air Force Cyber Command if that interests you. Once again sorry for the sour words.
I'm not opposed to moving to the south at all, certainly lower cost of living would be great, but it would have to be a great job offer for me to move well away from any gaming hubs.

Oh yeah, meant to add.... if you do move to SLC, try to find somewhere that avoids commuting on the interstate. Horrible traffic.

Hubby was stationed at Hill AFB near Ogden for a year before we were married but I visited him there twice for a total of 6 weeks. Salt Lake City is ok.... it's clean at least but that temple is scary, all those people trying to convert you. There's a pretty sweet British store though.
The rest of that part of the state is horrible - smog, smells, traffic. Once you get into the mountains (Park City; towards Bear Lake) it's beautiful.
Bryce Canyon is one of my favourite places, it's beautiful. I would not want to live in Utah because undoubtedly I'd end up in the smelly, smoggy, ugly part where all the people live, but I really hope I can go back to visit some day... I never saw Arches when I was there or Monument Valley, and I'd love to go back to Bryce.
