Default RVing across USA

Thinking of buying / hiring an RV and heading across the States this winter, of course we will stay south. Eventually we aim to settle in Vancouver, how do we import a vehicle registered in the States into Canada? Any tax to pay?
I'm sure there is, but anyone got any idea how much, is it better to sell in Seattle?
Thanks

Fraser

I have friends that live in Canada, they recently drove to Montana to pick up a new trailer and took it back into Canada...not sure about taxes on it, but can't really see them doing that if there were?

I am very jealous of your planned RVing across the US, that is a dream of ours...ho hum

Check out The Registrar of Imported Vehicles. What will your status be in the USA when you are doing this trip? Buying is the easy part, but if you're a visitor, you might have trouble getting a vehicle properly titled and insured.

Checked out the rentals and it is not cheap! neither of course is buying one, but we would use it both in the States and when we settle in Canada (probably Vancouver island).
Status in USA will be tourists though we have Permanent Resident status in Canada if that helps at all.
Talking of dreams, the road trip continues a journey from Europe, I crossed the Atlantic in a small boat a few years ago, when we reach the west coast the next stage will be to explore the Pacific!

Cheaper to buy a used one and sell it when you're finished.

Not really, unless you buy in Canada and just travel through the US. Other wise you'll still have the issue of registering, plating and insuring the thing, and then importing it into Canada afterwards.
