Royal Mile Pub - Des Moines, Iowa
Right then!
Just returned to my hotel room after a great meal and three great pints, at the Royal Mile Pub, in Des Moines, Iowa.
I had a Steak & Guiness Pie, accompanied by 1 pint of Fullers ESB, and then two pints of Old Speckled Hen.
A great night, at a great pub;
HP sauce is also readily available!
Edit: This Pub carries a wide selection of English/Irish Beers and Meals. Well worth a visit if you are passing through this area.
Jim.

Short sleeve weather around here... oh and I might check out that pub the next time I'm in Des Moines.
There is a "British themed" pub in Iowa City, got the classic phone box and that outside, so I checked it out. Of course the menu was just your usual American stuff, pizza and deep fried battered stuff, what a letdown...

45 degrees As soon as it gets to that temperature here I am already out in the mountains with my fly-rod! At the moment it is still below freezing during the night, so the fly-rod stays at home, but the winter hiking gear is packed!
There are two "British themed" places here, only ever been to one of those, and once was enough. Nothing more than hyped up American versions with a Brit twist. Fish and Chips-- more like fish fingers and fries-- How about some "authentic English crisps"?-- that will be $6 for some potatoes cooked in an oven-- badly!
I gave up a long time ago. Give me a great American tap house over a crappy knock off anytime.

Another place not to visit is "The English Pub" in Dyersville, IA. The only English Connection is the fact that guy who owns it is called "English" and that's where the connection ends. No English Beers or Food.
The Royal Mile on 4th, near to Walnut in DSM has a good selection of UK Beers, and food. Well worth it.
