Cool A rose by any other name...

How many here are constantly correcting poeple about their name?

Can they pronounce it... Have we got a Nigel?

Keep count of how many are Irish too! From that day on no matter how many times you tell them you are NOT Irish you will still be introduced as Bridget from Ireland.

Except one dear soul that still insists I am Scottish.

If you've ever heard me talk (Patrick has) I don't saynd nuffin like a Scott.

I'm fed up of correcting people spelling my name. EVerybody here spells it Leslie- even when I have told them the spelling or filled in forms etc with the correct spelling Lesley. In UK, Lesley is the girls way, Leslie the boys way- not so here.

My hubbys name - Paul has been translated into Cole before now. It's also always good entertainment when arriving at a restaurant to see what they write down too, will it be Pol or Pole this evening?

I love the craig - Kreg thing

I had a conversation with a guy on the phone at work, he was obviously having trouble understanding me, I had already told him what my name was , he asked me how you spelt it, asuming he was not asking how you spelt Matt, I spelt out my surname. A few hours later the guy called me up and called me by my surname continuously throughout the phone call. I was too embarassed to tell him that the name he was using was actually my surname.

Not me, but I'm reminded of an incident with my wife. Her name is Lisbeth and when registering at a US dentists she had to fill out a form with personal details etc. When they called her, they called for Elizabeth. When she corrected them, the woman said "oh, I assumed you'd spelled your name wrong." As if!

Everyone but everyone gets my name wrong except for those that know me so I just shorten it and even then I had some guy pronounce it as Tom instead of Tam! Jeez!!

I find Jennifer tends to be better in first introductions, as Jenny or Jen appears to be completely incomprehendible!

Why can't Colin just be Colin? Why does it have to be pronounced Cohlin, like Cohlin Powell? Pete they seem to understand ok, thank god.

For some reason, my name seems to be confusing, and I can't think why.

On paper Duncan gets pronounced Dooncan sometimes and when I say my name it has been written so many ways.. Duncun, Dunkan, Dunkun and even Dunkin. Which brings me onto "Dunkin Donuts", something I frequently here!

I used to work with a guy called Ehab. One of the more elderly members of staff, shes kind of like the crazy grandma that everyone loves, could not remember that and either called him U turn or Ebay!

My wife has more problems, her name is Kylene. She has it spelt weird sometimes but it seems no one can say it or understand when it's said. One time she sang the national anthem and the alma marta for her graduation and was introduced, by the same guy, on two occasions, once as Kylene and once as Kaylene. Wierd.
