road trip
After lots of false starts this year of planned trips, cancelations because of hospital stays and recoveries, grown kids moving and jobs changing the decision of taking a road trip has been made (or rather made for us as I need to take a week off in July or no chance again until later in the year because of job changes)
We have decided to go in the truck and not on the Harley for various reasons and we want to go out of Texas and probably somewhere we haven't been before. We like to be spontaneous so not expecting to stick to any plan we come up with.
Right now we are thinking i10 to Louisiana and then..where?? Suggestions, anyone? We have 6 days and a thirsty truck

Re: road trip
We just did 2440 miles over 10 days.
I'd say don't do Ohio...it's just to much hard work looking at that much corn on that flat of a road, but northern Ohio was much nicer.
I'd also not recommend Indiana, apart from Indianapolis, it wasn't that much fun of a drive either.
Loved what I saw of West Virginia and would have loved to have taken a bigger detour through Virginia...but probably getting a bit far for you folks if you're doing it in a week.

Have you done Arkansas...? We zigzagged up the west side a couple of years back and had a great time. Some excellent State Parks and all that. If you're just looking for a few relaxing days, head up through Hot Springs and on to Mount Magazine State park and get one of their lodges...we've not stayed in them as we were in the trailer, but we peeped through the windows and they looked really nice, with big balconies overlooking the valley. I think they had hot tubs on the balconies, but don't hold me to that! Neighbors over the road went up there for a long weekend last year and came back raving about it.

How about Fort Walton or Pensacola? We are thinking about Albuquerque, 19 hours the other direction

I can honestly say that no hedgehogs will be maimed or killed on this road trip.
Maybe a possum or two though...
