RFID 'Til the Cows Come Home

Re: RFID 'Til the Cows Come Home
I've a friend who believes that the government requiring humans to have an RFID implanted will be the start of Armageddon -- eg the equivalent of putting a number (say, 666?) on people's heads.

I believe Armageddon began on 9/11.

And a follow on story - http://ask.slashdot.org/article.pl?s...30212&from=rss
Kinda interesting perhaps...
"..."Even with all the talk about privacy and security, there seems to be a growing community of people who are implanting themselves with RFID chips. Being a developer myself, I am intrigued about building applications and solutions that will open my doors, unlock my car, log me on to my computer and control home automation. I'm seriously considering jumping into this head first, being on the bleeding edge, and going with an implant. ..."

On the other hand, had the suspect been cremated the cops could have searched through his former belongings (if they still existed) like old toothbrushes to get putative samples of his DNA.
Depends on how long the person had been dead. DNA does'nt last forever, and can be easily tainted. A persons effects, like toothbrushes, hair brushes etc, are usually disposed of after the person dies, along with clothes and shoes and other effects.
TV Shows like CSI are very good and all that, but they don't give you the real story of all thats involved in collecting DNA.

Re: RFID 'Til the Cows Come Home
The USA is behind in terms of RFIDs for cattle. It's been in England for a number of years after the BSE crisis. The government has a central database for all cattle and they all have passports. Move an animal from one place to another and it has to be recorded.
Never seen a problem with IDs myself. After all, INS know a hell of a lot about me

Another news story...
"They can steal your smartcard, lift your passport, jack your car, even clone the chip in your arm. And you won't feel a thing. 5 tales from the RFID-hacking underground....
...James Van Bokkelen is about to be robbed. A wealthy software entrepreneur, Van Bokkelen will be the latest victim of some punk with a laptop. But this won't be an email scam or bank account hack. A skinny 23-year-old named Jonathan Westhues plans to use a cheap, homemade USB device to swipe the office key out of Van Bokkelen's back pocket...."

A bit long, but quite interesting, if your bothered by it all
