I'm returning to the US using my green card after a 5 week stint in the UK.
Can you foresee any issues at immigration? I was just going to answer that it was an extended vacation to see family and friends. I actually thought I was moving back for good but have since changed my mind.

Having just read a post from a guy with a similar concern over being out for 5 months, it seems the opinion is that there won't be any issues.

Agreed. You're unlikely even to be asked about it.

The conversation with the CBP officer will most likely go something like this:
CBP: How long were you out of the country?
You: 5 weeks.
CBP: Are you bringing back any gifts with you?
You: No.
CBP: Any food or agricultural products?
You: No.
CBP: Welcome home.
... and that's the long version - it could be quite a bit shorter ...

While we were Green Card holders we twice left the country for 4 weeks and on return had no issues at all.

Unless he actually spent those 5 weeks in Syria rather than the uk, it is unlikely to ever be a problem.

The biggest issue I had coming back is now you have to get the machine to accept your ID and then answer questions on the kiosk. Then take the paper slip, take it to immigration then answer another load of questions.

I had my GC for 5 years before I became a USC.
We're retired.... every year for 3 months we've been going to sit on a beach somewhere over Winter, usually in SE Asia.
I never had an issue....just once was asked what was the purpose of my trip abroad.
5 weeks isn't considered a long time out of the country...You'll be absolutely fine!
