If you go to my thread you will see which questions are unclear!

Plus what fee?? look at them too is it $220 or $265 I think it was.

Do we have to have signed photos?? because we are sending in the old passport.

Birth cert yes or no...

Poppy - I'm with you :)

Some parts are clear and other parts are not so clear.

I've got my passport photo's done, now to find someone to sign them !! LOL

You only have to get updated photo's if you have changed a lot from your last photo's. IF you look pretty much the same, then don't bother, so, then that bit is out of the way !! LOL

I did as my curly hair is no longer curly and it's a different color, plus my old photo looks terrible. But, my new photo's don't look much better ! LOL

As to the fee I see $265, that includes postage for them to send it back.

It seems from here and other places I've asked, some get their photo's signed and some don't bother. I don't know anyone from UK to ask that's a professional, so, going to ask my daughters USA teacher, as they say that will do.

My stumbling block is deciding what they mean by RECENT when they talk about expired. Someone said they felt 2006 was not recent, but, I don't think it would have been very hard for the site to give a time period of what THEY consider recent.

I have no idea where my FULL birth certificate is and sending off for one will delay this even further. The site gives a phone number, but, the help line has been contracted out to a private company and costs US about $3 a MINUTE to call them, all I need is for them to put me on hold !! LOL

Now that's what I thought after reading it again...BUT why have a charge for a change, and a separate charge for a new it does not make sense.!!

Call the office of the recorder of births, deaths and marriages in the county/borough where you were born and request it from them. I did this for my sons, paid by CC and the certificates arrives within the week.

I had this problem recently when buying a UK property. It was requested my PP details were notorised. I got it notorised but this was not recognised in the UK. In the UK a notary is a practising solicitor with a law degree. This does not equate to the qualifications of a notary in the US.

Practising solicitors in the U.K. are automatically commissioners for oaths (and capable to certify documents as true copies), but that is not the same as a notary.

I understand how you feel Pops...what happens if you get that emergency call from back home? Don't worry the odds are on your side and you'll get your PP back before the end of the month.

It was a risk I decided to take as the GC could be months yet,I sent a brief letter with the paperwork explaining that my mother was alone and elderly and I would appreciate a quick turn around incase I had to leave the US in an emergency.

You know that call could come this week, this year next year or in 20 years, but I will feel better when I have it in my hands or at least know they have recieved it that way they can always get it to me ASAP if need be.

Re: Renewing British Passport?

British Embassy passport office just called me :)

To verify that I did not want my middle name on my passport because it was on the C1 form application and my divorce and marriage certificate, but not on the old passport....so I said "will it make a difference" and he said that even if my GC has the middle name on, no, just make sure when I book flights etc not to include the middle name to save confussion either way not a problem as all the details are encrypted in the passport anyway.

But if any of you do send your passport as we talked about, and want your middle name added to a new passport that was not there previously then you need to send a Birth Certificate.

He said it would be with me within 7 days but he had the tracking number already so it must be good to go I guess, either way its done..

So did you end up getting the form and the pictures countersigned? I am just about to send mine off, and hate the fact that everywhere on the form and the instructions it says it must be countersigned. You have to go to the FAQ on the embassy site to find any mention that you may not need to do this if its a renewal - doesn't seem too clear - especially as the FAQ are quite old.

Yes I see what you mean answer 14.

Just get it done mine was done by a notary public.

There is also a online form you can print for them to take the payment I used that service as I was not sure how much they wanted.

It does say somewhere that notary public is not acceptable as a countersignatory.

Thats another problem at the moment, I am about to move so probably need to wait as depending on when they take the payment my address may be different. I don't want to spend money on a cashiers check either - that I just object to.

Well it seemed after a few calls that a notary is acceptable by the British Embassy if its filed in the US but not the UK office.
