Relocation costs and UK tax allowance
Does anyone have any experience of receiving the £8000 of tax free removal costs from the UK to the US.
Reviewing the HMRC website, there are no reporting requirements but would welcome views on if people have either received this
1/ as a lump sum removal cost.
2/ Got their company to pay the expenses direct
3/ paid the expenses but then claimed back through company expenses
plus any issues anyone might have had with these methods. e.g turning up in P11Ds etc
Thanks

It's not tax free. If you receive a payment from your employer it's either taxed, OR it is repayment of an expense incurred to further the business of your employer, in which case you'd better have receipts to match or exceed the amount paid to you. Given that it is difficult to claim any expenses against your income, it would be better, I'm sure, to have your employer pay the removal expenses directly, or it to go through your expense account.
