I sent a registered (signed and tracked) letter via Royal Mail. It reached the USA and the tracking states processed through "ISC NY." No other updates for days. How long does it take on average to be delivered? Thanks

Regular mail from the UK gets here in three or four days. We are in rural New York State. Never received registered, but there have been other threads over the years, asking similar questions to yours. Registering probably slows it down radically. You don't say how long it's been..

We are 400 miles from NYC or any other international gateway, so totally out in the sticks, but mail seems consistent; mailed on Monday in UK, we'll receive it either Wednesday or Thursday here. You are clearly closer to an international airport, but maybe the mail doesn't work that way..

The letter has been at the ISC processing centre in NY for nearly a week. It is going to NC.

Are you tracking the letter on the Royal Mail site, or the USPS site?

Royal Mail only tracks to the port of entry in the US. Once it arrives in the US, you then track it on the USPS site. Use the same tracking number as you use on the Royal Mail site. Registered mail and tracked mail do take slightly longer to arrive. Everyone has to sign when there's a handover.

When my (now) wife were dating, she'd send me stuff and sometimes it would arrive within the week and others could take as much as six weeks!

There's no telling how it works. I'm sure greater minds than mine could figure it out, but them's the facts, Jack.

It seems to be proportional to how important the letter is!

OK, this is really weird. I've lived in the US 23 years, never received any registered mail from UK. This thread comes along. Now, a few minutes ago, I received a registered letter from England that I had to sign for. It was mailed in England on 21 May, eight days ago, so I'd say it took slightly longer than regular mail..

Mail that is sent to me averages about 10 days. Apart from 2 things that never arrived and 1 package from Edinburgh that arrived after 14 days and had been opened and the contents (money for my kids Easter) removed and it sealed again but not before someone elses mail that was destined to go from Cumbria to Australia was added to the package! (The theft was done in Heathrow according to Royal Mail)

Registered is quite unreliable as far as the timing goes, but the average seems to be about 15 days. It once took 6 weeks though.

You are now learning just how much USPS tracking sucks. Next time use a proper carrier such as FEDEX or UPS. I won't use USPS for anything that I need to rely on being sent or received. They are just absolutely useless.

Case in point, last month we received a note in the mailbox saying that USPS had tried to deliver a registered package with signature required. Wife checked the box on said note saying please re-deliver and put it back in the mail box. 3 days pass and no sign of package. She goes to the post office and talks to the usual customer no service government employee who casually tells her it must be lost and to file a claim with the sender! She talks to two further no help drones over the proceeding weeks. One of the supervisors even had the temerity to imply that she was lying and that she really had received the package to which she replied something to the effect that, Ok sherlock, where's the proof of delivery with my signature? Of course that was also conveniently lost.
The package never arrived and the sender eventually refunded her and had to eat their incompetence. I think in reality that someone in the PO stole the item, but that is a WAG.

The USPS are a bunch of useless muppets....
