Yeh, but you have to put up with the flea pit of the US - the Central Valley - on a daily basis. Swings and rotaries, you know...

The cost of living in Silicon Valley is really a show stopper unless you are willing to dodge bullets or are in a two income family (with at least one in the six digits). $1,000,000 buys you not much in some areas, and a lot of the housing stock is straight out of 1960. Searching through Realtor.com can really be an eye opener.

I've only been to Redwood City a few times on business, but to be honest there wasn't much to differentiate it from other cities nearby. It's all one big suburb down there.

I'm currently looking at Los Altos, Cupertino and Palo Alto as options in the next year, but also considering Half Moon Bay (to get away from it a bit) and Sunnyvale (to save a little money). I'm looking at least a 5 br place and it's going to be in the 1.5-2.0 million range just to stay on par with what I have in the DC area.

There's a few studios out there which is a draw and I've a mate that lives in San Fran.

The benefits aren't to shabby, but then they usually aren't in the games industry...thing it, it's California...no offense, but that was way, way, way down the list of states I was looking at, on par with Austin, Texas.

Can't say RWC does a great deal for me - seems to comprise mostly of freeway and the bits near the water are populated by a socking great scrap yard that regularly catches fire, a cement plant and some grotty salt flats. Perhaps I have just missed the nice parts:)

That said, NorCal is a pretty nice place to live, good weather, seaside, skiing, hiking, great cities etc. I'm never too sure what the fascination is with owning property to live in - renting is far cheaper at the moment.

Why not look for a cheap flight out for a long weekend.

I went there once about 20 years ago. The food was shite, if I remember correctly it was little Cornish game hens, served on metal platters and no cutlery, you were supposed to rip them apart with your hands so as to totally immerse yourself in the medieval experience. The joust was very staged and choreographed. MT definitely earns no points in favor of So Cal
