Red Nose (Comic Relief) Day in the UK
I had an e-mail from my cousin who is a receptionist at her local doctor's surgery in Saundersfoot, Pembrokeshire and she says that everyone working there today (including the doctors) are wearing red clothes and have the 'red noses' today. One of the nurses has put red streaks in my cousin's hair from an aerosol can which she hopes will wash out!

I never did buy any red noses either for myself or for the car - I thought it was a bit naff really....but it's nice that it's a good fund-raiser for charity.
I don't think they have any annual national fund-raising schemes for charity in the US do they? I certainly can't think of any, other than the recent campaign for the Tsunami appeal.

The United Way campaign is a national one; Salvation Army for Xmas; Veteran's Day (our own version of Poppy Day), March of Dimes Relay for Life and I'm sure there are more, but these are all annual and national.

I've never liked Comic Relief, or Take the Piss for The Poor, as I like to call it.

When my ex was in the Army and they had the Annual United Federated Campaign for monthly charitable deductions from your paycheck, they use to hand out a book with it that told exactly what percent of funds received went to the charity itself and what was used for operating costs. Surprising what the rakeoff is for some of the outfits.

I used to enjoy Red Nose Day. When I was at college we did a sponsored fancy dress scavenger hunt around Liverpool. (I knicked my dads fire brigade uniform)
We raised a few grand for comic relief and we got on Fred's weather map (floating weather map in the Albert Dock on This Morning tv show) which was one of the more entertaining requirements of the hunt.
I like some of the shows they put on - Celebrity Fame Academy has been very entertaining and it was always funny waiting to see who Dawn French was going to snog
