We currently live in SC. I'm US/hubby's Brit; has US citizenship. We are in early 50s, no children or pets. He's IT web programmer, I'm Legal Secretary. Thinking of making a move to Florida.
He and his family have been visiting Florida (mainly Orlando) for 20+ yrs so he's/we are familiar with the negatives there (as well as the positives).
Want to make move for mainly social reasons, i.e., more going on down there than here, for sure. Also easy access to/from London via MCO/Sanford (his mum visits FL at least 3-4 times/yr), and salaries [hopefully] better than here.
With that in mind .... seeking suggestions on cities/towns to consider. We love Mount Dora but wow, very very busy there most of the time. Haven't been to Lake Mary but hear it's nice. Would consider anywhere along that Orlando/Tampa corridor, as well.
Not looking into purchasing a home; we'd rather rent a 3-bedroom place. We own a home up here that we'll be selling. Tired of home ownership! Works for some - has worked for me/us in the past - but we're ready to lighten up.
Thanks to anyone who feels like responding!

Celebration! in Central Florida, (kissimmee) just has to be the best!
there are few websites for the town of celebration and i think its been voted americas best places to live a few times. Was originally built by the walt disney company, but still remains an un-incorporated community

Best place near Orlando? How about New Jersey? It's closer than Tokyo.

Thank you everyone. We love Winter Park ... and Celebration. All good starting-off points. Appreciate the feed-back.

winter park has nice areas but has a lot of seedy areas. in the nice parts, house prices are very expensive. windermere is very nice and expensive and a lot of basketball players live down there. south orlando is tourist central and not particularly nice unless you like that type of thing. east of orlando you have oviedo, and the UCF area. oviedo was nice and UCF very studenty as u would expect. north orlando you have lake mary, altamonte, sanford....lake mary is nice, altamonte - not really that nice, sanford - average to very bad. crime in orlando has become very bad in recent years.
