Default Recently Divorced Brit Marrying a USC, question

Will I need my divorce papers in order to marry here in the US?

We planned to get married on the 23rd, the final paperwork has taken longer than anticipated and thus its getting a little close... it is finalised I simply don't have the paper that says it is.

No VISA issues exist here so please don't be hatin ( you know who you are ).

As far as I recall, I needed my UK Decree Nisi, when we applied for our marriage license in Illinois.

That would help us out no end - thanks, I'll be calling tomorrow to check out vegas requirements - from what I've been told its pretty hands off... male, female, $50, you're married.

Yes, to the best of my knowledge, rules are the same as in the UK, also why don't you ask this in the USmarriage section??

I definitely neede my decree absolute when I married OH in PA. Don't know if it differs from state to state.

Divorced Applicants: Are required to know the Month/Day/Year/City and State of their divorce. The divorce must be final and filed with the courts in the state or country granted. You are not required to bring the divorce decree.

Which State or County are you quoting Ray? All depends where you are.

Chicago, Cook County.

Applicants who have divorced within the last six months must provide a certified copy of their divorce decree upon applying for a marriage license.

My UK husband and I were married in Boone County, Illinois. We brought his Decree Absolute but all they were interested in was *my* final Dissolution of Marriage from the state of Illinois. They did ask to see his Visa but it appeared that it was the first time they have ever seen a K-1, so we had to educate them as to what it was. Try looking up the requirements for the county you'll be married in.

I don't think they asked for my visa, just passport as ID.
