There are about 500 Cask outlets in the US (source: Gotham Imbiber), but many only have a cask on every second Thursday (etc...) and some others see the beer abused by staff who simply are not trained/experienced enough in keeping cask ales. While my policy is 100% cask-only when in the UK, I realized that I have been actively avoiding cask ale in the US for a couple of years now based on numerous poor experiences. Shame, really.

Are you in the US already? The US doesn't have the cask=good, keg=bad CAMRA hangup. US keg can be and often is amazing.

I'm not there yet, but I've visited enough US brew-pubs over the years to know that their keg is gassy, just like ours. I think its the fizz that puts me off.
