Question re: Filing in San Diego for EAD

Good morning, I have a quick question that I hope can be answered:
We filed for my husband's AOS and for the EAD on August 16. The various web-sites say that the time to process the EAD in San Diego is between 1 - 5 days. The not very friendly woman at the counter said "we will call you to come in".
However, would that be 1-5 days after filing, or 1-5 days after San Diego runs all the paperwork through. I have spoken with people who have been through this, and they have told me it will be about 90 days until we get an appointment for the EAD. Are they kidding me? When attorneys can walk in on Wednesdays and obtain an EAD for their clients the very same day? Thanks for any input, I appreciate it!
