nope not really...as it sounds about the same as where I am....

property tax - 2,600
gas prices here are at about $2.98
City council tax on 2 cars - 600.00 (thats not including road tax) with is another 100.00
and of course tax is added on here on anything you buy.

I've probably missed something out, but I can't think of it off hand..

Trust me we're taxed about the same here in the US are we were in the UK......

Ours is and I so dislike handing the money over but it has to be done. So today's lunch hour will be spent lining up at the courthouse Tax Office and then I'll be officially broke

Not really. What with property taxes, federal income tax, state income tax, township income tax, sales tax, healthcare and petrol at $3.09 a gallon nothing could make me feel better

When I write it down as a list I am amazed at the taxes on our income!

I know petrol is cheaper but I do so many miles here that I end up paying more than I used to in the UK.

Thank you doris, you saved me the job of listing them all.

Of course when you add all the other insurances as well, home-owners windstorm and hurricane and flood (all seperate policies and all of which increase every year!) then it really scares you how much we are paying out every year
