i applied and paid et al, got some responses early on and informed it should take 16 weeks, it's going on 30 weeks now. No responses to emails at all. Has anyone applied for probate in the UK while living in the US? how did it go?

I would guess this is for the general USA forum. If you are dealing with the death of a close relative in UK my sympathies. I know many of us expats dread that. so an open conversation would be welcome. I reported the post and I expect JG the moderator round here will move it to where there is a wider audience!

It appears to already be done. General USA participants have been around a while, whilst the immigration section is still figuring out how to get here!

Did you sign in to http://www.apply-for-probate.service.gov.uk/ to track the progress?

Many UK public sector services are slow currently (or rather, even slower than they normally are), including probate. So the delay is probably unrelated to your location as you don't have to live in the UK to be an executor, just that it's slow. Getting an email response from the government is always hit or (generally) miss.

Yes you are! I have an 80+ year old Father in UK and I have no idea what his death will entail.

Basically no issues if he has a Will in place. Unfortunately not the easiest topic to bring up over the phone but it is important nevertheless

First of all, sorry to hear you're going through this, it's hard! I am sort of going through this at the moment. My Dad passed away last year and we have applied for probate but my uncle has been sorting this from UK. We applied over 16 weeks ago now and got a letter today from our solicitors saying there is still no update. I think things are taking a long time. It is interesting to hear your application took 30 weeks.

Very sorry to read this . Thank you for the kind words! They did have a notice that they were well behind. I just didn't expect 16 weeks to be 30 weeks plus but all is good that ends well i suppose. Fingers crossed for you! Happy Holidays in this trying time for you. Hang in there. I lost my older brother in 2021. It's taken this long to get around to closing all avenues.
