Pressure Barrels in US?
My fiance is trying to sort out which of his belongings to spend a small fortune shipping to the US from the UK. He has a couple of pressure barrels for fermenting beer. I've been looking at websites here, trying to figure out how much it would cost to buy new ones, but I can't seem to find any in the US. Does anyone know where I could buy one here, or why they are so hard to find? Do they violate some kind of ridiculous law or something?

Is a pressure barrel the same as a 'keg'? (I have no idea, just asking).
It could be that the word 'keg' is the USA is used to describe more than what you traditionally consider to be a 'keg' in the UK. You might search for those on US homebrew sites.

What he has is plastic, like these:

Is there an advantage to the heavy stainless steel kegs? I'm not sure if they work the same way.

This is for an example from a local home brewing establishment.

This link will I am sure be of interest, more about dispensing than brewing.

Can get those in most brew shops around, so can't imagine it being hard to find online in a specialist store...but then again, might depend on where you are. There's loads of brew shop type places around where I am though.

I discovered the same thing myself. The barrels are becoming more available than they were (which was one internet shop that sold them for twice the UK price), but being so big, shipping is more expensive.
They don't violate any laws (except maybe Alabama).
Here is a place that just recently started selling them:

You don't need to spend a lot on a fermeter. Most homebrewers I know use 5 gallon glass carboys as fermeters when making ales, they cost about $30. If you want to bottom ferment, it's more expensive but there's lots of options.

I use plain plastic food-grade buckets for the primary (when in the UK I didn't even seal it with an airlock, just left the lid on loose), but it was really handy having a plastic barrel for the secondary/serving.
