Default Postal Service

Does anyone else seem to have a problem sending and receiving their post- Since i have been here ( a year now) I have lived in two different cities in Ga and no matter what methods are used- express/airmail/service/ each time i send a letter or parcel to the UK it always takes a different time span- some even up to six weeks and some never get there and vice versa- i have had many parcels- inc. wedding gifts go missing and various letters when sent from uk to here.- I complain to the POst office and it takes them 3 months to respond?!!! What is going on !! It is the US post or UK at fault -i don't know but very frustrating !!!

Hint: the S in USPS does NOT stand for 'Service'...

The time between sending from the US and receipt in the UK can be expressed by the formula:

Random(100)*Pf / ((Mrx + Tv) / C)

in days

Where :
Pf is the postal workers Pissed off Factor (expressed in units of 1000)
Mrx is the salary of said postal worker (To nearest 10k)
Tv is the vacation time of said postal worker (in days)
C is the distance in miles between post box and USPS sorting office

I find receiving ours is a bit weird. Sometimes we'll go 2 or 3 days with nothing, then so much turns up it doesn't fit in the box. International stuff seems to be excellent though. I got a card from my Grandparents that was sent from England and arrived here is 2 days and I sent a parcel on Saturday afternoon and it arrived in England on Tuesday morning.

you are not alone, I have had at least three packages sent from the UK never make it to me. Someone somewhere must have quite a racket going.

If you send from the UK you are told that they cannot guarantee what happens once your parcel hits US soil - and if you send from the US they say that they cannot guarantee what happens once your parcel hits UK soil. So, if there is a delay the UK will blame the US or the US will blame the UK - you just have to pay for the insurance and keep your fingers crossed!

I remember seeing a program just before we left the UK last year where the Post Office admitted they "misplace" some 14,000,000 letters per year! Most are never seen again. I recall the investigation discovered things like whole post vans full of letters being dumped in landills

And sometimes they've found a postal workers home full of undelivered mail too - I remember one where the guy wasn't really stealing the mail, he just couldn't be bothered to deliver it!

I assume the people sending the parcels from the UK are putting the customs sticker on declaring whats in it and likewise when you send parcels home, my mum works at the post office back in the UK and says that US customs don't like letting things through that aren't labelled.
I've not had any problems, things do seem to vary in the length of time they take to arrive but not had anything go missing, yet..

There was a guy here recently who got in trouble for not delivering mail. They looked in his house and there were thousands of packages and letters, his excuse was that he was so busy over Christmas he took them home to deliver when it wasn't so bad.

I did Christmas temp work for the Post Office many years ago - I was sorting letters and we got thousands in from this company sending 50p coins to customers who had sent in tokens (going back about 20 years to when 50p was worth something!) - they caught one temp worker leaving his shift with loads of the letters stuffed down his trousers! Shouldn't have laughed - but I did!
