Ummmmm......

Detroit Metro Airport is very nice.

Can't think of anything else right now.

Michigan's not so bad. I can think of a few benefits:

-In Detroit, you can buy a house for less than a new car (although you'll probably get more for the car when you try to trade it in.)

-After several months, your marksmanship will improve considerably.

-When your medical insurance drops you, you'll have a shorter drive to Canada to get your health care.

I'm sure that there are other upsides, but I can't think of any right now.

That is a bit a a s**t-hole, which is probably part of the reason it's about to be demolished.
The McNamara Terminal is very nice though.

To be serious for a moment, I think there are at least three distinct aspects to the OP's question:

- personal financial situation: the economy in Michigan is doing pretty badly (worse than anywhere else in the US?) right now, so most jobseeking MI immigrants are going to face a bigger challenge than their counterparts in other states. But maybe you've already found a job, or are retired, or studying, or something else that makes this irrelevant. Only you know.

- family/friends situation: if you have family or friends in MI already, then that's a big magnet (although it doesn't necessarily make money matters any easier). Only you know.

- the town you choose to live in in MI: Michigan isn't New England (!), so it's not full of Ye Olde Townes with wooden barns and post offices (actually, they've been mostly flattened in New England too). Ann Arbor is the only big college town and "cultural" life can be a bit thin on the ground if you're into theatre, ballet, and other hoity-toity activities. MI is a northern state - there are no balmy Floridan Januaries there (but no hurricanes either). But if having a big garden, garage, easy driving conditions, space, hunting/ fishing/ snowsports, whatever is what you want, MI could be for you. Only you know.

The question is a bit like asking, "should I move to Yorkshire?". I wouldn't be caught dead living there, but plenty of people love it, and move there from across the UK.

thank you for the positives and I think we already knew the negatives, yes we are retired, we have our son and daughter in law there in St jospeh and I know what you mean about yorkshire although all my family history is there-the coast is good the big cities not so.
I would like to think we could spend a couple of months a year in the south maybe Florida or maybe somewhere else pretty warm.
