Before talking to your tax chap tomorrow - (and from what you've written I get the feeling he simply follows your instructions and probably isn't conversant with what, for him at least, may be less common predicaments) - you might want to take a look at this:

But were I in your shoes - I'd definitely sit myself down with a coloured marker (after printing it out) - and make myself understand what relates to me.

An observation is that most of these tax compliance articles are written in terms that may be relevant to high dollar tax evasion cases, and raise issues that simply aren't relevant to more common situations.
