I totally agree that if you have a good job/business then life can be very rewarding here. The American dream is not a myth!
For a home away from home, US is a good place to settle down. It is still fairly early days for me so I don't know when the transition from the homesickness to a more homey association with the place would complete - I'm giving until next summer before making the long term decision - so far a return flight home is very much on the cards!

Well I'm enjoying working here but the travelling is very tiring, as well, have not being spending much time with the family.
Experiencing the work culture and the diverse workforce is fascinating experience but I do think that the Americans are crazy workaholics - most of them live to work and I'm not convinced that this is the sustainable lifestyle for me. I like my 10 bank holidays and 33 vacations more

She is finally settling in but obviously misses her family. My family is well spread out throughout the UK but all of her family is in Scotland, and this is the first time that she has really been away from home for more than 6 months.
Also, doing the chores with 3 kids on her own in the new surroundings is not that easy. I'm hardly around due to the nature of my work. Her social network is limited to the school moms. On the positive note, she likes the people here albeit finds them a bit too "enthusiastic" in whatever they do
.
My son has already lost his scottish accent. He wouldn't let me change the channel a few weeks ago because he was watching his "beloved" Giants playing the world series. I asked him if he even knows anything about baseball, and I got the look from the mom! Apparently, he plays with rest of the bairns at school - I guess no more rugby or cricket lessons for him then!! Also, "World Series", really!!! How can this be a World Series???

Yes we all want our kids to fit in but are surprised when they become Americans
it's still early days for you all and I'm sure you'll feel more settled as time goes on.A neighbour was telling me once about someone who had worked "All over the world - San Francisco, New York, Miami..."
