Law changed in Washington State 26th July 2009

NRA took the State to court and said that under the 14th amendment, all persons present in the USA whether citizens or LPR's were all equal. Imagine that, me equal. Black people also are regarded as citizens now so they didnt have to keep the exclusion up for non citizens any more

Anyway the judge agreed, so on the day, I collected my brand new Rock River Arms AR -15 and also a nice CZ 22 453 Varmint with walnut stock. We don't do fried squirrel at our house so I drilled some paper targets and then put masking tape on like as if I was some kind of tighto Yorkshireman
Extreme political statements are pinned up all around the firing point and they seem to assume that all shooters have the same politics as some south american CIA sponsored death squad dictator. I was a club officer for 14 years in England and didn't know the political affiliations of any member

I nod politely like shallow graves for illegals are a good idea. Isnt America strange ? If you whale watch you are a socialist and if you watch nascar or shoot, you are a brown shirt white supremacist - it's riven down the middle and is more like 2 countries. Special radio/tv/sports for each tribe. Special States for each tribe. Stars and bars/ stars and stripes. Lefties have abortions/righties bring the kid up and marry it off to a cousin at 16. Lefties are breeding faster than righties - strange. Fascinating place - in England nobody gives a damn about politics - or much else actually. Apathy is a fine goal.

To try and link back to driving tests, yes we GC folk are now equal and can be authorised for anything. Learning to fly a passenger jet might involve some delay though

YAY! About time too!

You're quite correct about the Jim Crow origins of most gun laws. There are some shocking statements on the record from judges and the like about how, e.g. discretionary carry laws are perfectly OK because "no white man has ever been refused".

You're right about the tribalism too - although that's clearly being driven by evil lefties. Do you ever worry that the whole thing might be a scam and Michael Moore is having cocktails with Rush Limbaugh right now and laughing at us all?

PS: I do the thing with the masking tape too!

Apologies to the OP as we are digressing somewhat - but he is doing great with the driving thing and well on the way

Yes the great politics show is a super sport and better than baseball. I have to be so careful though because if I log onto a certain website for shooters, it's all politics. I suggested that certain safety measures would be a good move so that 7 year olds who had never held a gun couldn't use illegally converted fully automatic AK47's like they do on utube, spraying bullets in a semi circle and everyone diving for cover - and I was deluged by 'dont touch my guns folk' . Strangely , sarah palin is pro guns but encourages gun safety courses for the youth - so if the 2nd amendment bods had realised i was really spouting the palin line, i would have been drenched in approval.

Everyone is so touchy about politics. In England we are used to the new guy coming in and nothing happens, or if something happens we cant change it because it's an elected dictatorship for 5 years. I remember Harold Wilson's first 100 days and the 'white heat of technology' guff. I was so looking forward to the bright new world. Course he sat there and puffed his pipe for 14 years or so and then got a nice cottage in the Scilly Isles.

Everyone here is so fired up. I would start the apathy party so people could relax, but I guess nobody would join unless it was compulsory to be in it and you had to actively elect to be excluded

Sorry OP but it's vaguely connected as you will need a gun once you get your driver's license, and dealing with rabid politics and murders of abortion doctors and political figures is part of acclimatising to the new country. It can be done but it's quite worrying for a while after years spent pottering around the Yorkshire Dales where the biggest excistement is the pub running out of crisps

The point of the blind spot is that you can't check it with your mirrors''' you would fail anywhere for not checking it and I reckon you were very lucky to pass!

I understand keeping an eye on traffic in your mirrors from quarter of a mile ago, but what if a car joins in your blind spot and drives alongside you there? Or changes lanes into your blind spot? You should check it when you manouvre whether you have been checking your mirrirs well or not!

That's the best for civilian drivers and I agree. I was describing two advanced Police driving courses where it was a bad fail not to know that a car had joined you and was driving alongside in your blind spot.
Totally different scenario to taking the kids to school in a minivan where I agree that one should always turn the head to check the blind spot because the level of awareness is not in the same league. It's the difference between a fighter pilot and granny going to church in Oklahoma on a Sunday morning - different techniques required

My problem was reversing my advanced training and reverting to civilian mode and turning my head to satisfy the examiner, even though I knew there was nobody there in the blind spot. The only way someone could get in my blind spot without me knowing it would be for them to be beamed down vertically from the mother ship and that only happens in California I believe

I was once cruising on the autobahn at 115mph or so and I saw lights about a mile back. I pulled over to the right and a car passed me so fast I reckon he was doing around 150 (legally). He had a trailer on the back. Blind spot checking is even more necessary in Germany
