My apologies if this has been asked before (i did a quick search and could not find the answer)

I want to renew my passport online this time and as far as I can see it will accept a digital photo with a code - being an oldie and not so good with tech stuff - WHAT !!??

last time I went to CVS and got printed ones

If you go through the online application, you'll see that there's an option to upload a digital photo taken with your phone. In that case no 'code' is needed.
