I think it's fair to say he was not going to be seeing the courtroom.

Yeah, get your panties in a bunch about some people getting removed from a plane for security reasons, yet a guy going to a strip joint for a bachelor party deserves to be shot dead( even if you are joking  ).
Truly bizarre logic and priorities

First thing I thought was that maybe the black guys inside the car that got shot could've been a bit drunk which may have led to them bumping the car in front. Still, lots of fuzzy details here that need to be straightened out which, lets face it might never happen. I'd like to know what they actually did to prompt 50 shots being fired.
That poor wife-to-be of his, can you imagine what she must be going through? Heartbreaking.
I wish Al Sharpton would get his nose out of it as well, he's not exactly known for making these situations any better.

I wonder if everybody would be waiting for more details if it was some white brit ex-pat coming out of a strip club on his stag night that was shot while un-armed. 50 rounds? Seems a bit excessive regardless of the situation, unless the guy was carrying a rocket launcher.

Bad comment, as in incorrect.

I had suggested that the cops should have shot once in the arm or leg, as per legislation that was proposed in NY following the last controversial shooting. However, the legislation did not pass as I thought it did. Therefore, the policy remains 'shoot to stop' or 'aim at the centre', as Old William pointed out is standard procedure.

I went to a strip club on my stag night... I got into "an argument" with the bar staff over paying $8.00 for a ****ing warm bottle of Heineken so I took my blow up sheep and left after 10 minutes. :o

Be fair two didn't shoot and one shot 31 times  so the other two had 19 shots between them sounds like one over reacted the others just emptied their guns

The NYT had a good explanation as to what might have happened:

http://www.nytimes.com/2006/11/27/ny...rtner=homepage

"It is known in police parlance as “contagious shooting” — gunfire that spreads among officers who believe that they, or their colleagues, are facing a threat. It spreads like germs, like laughter, or fear. An officer fires, so his colleagues do, too...."

Details will trickle in...and get used and abused by both sides I suspect.

A fair assesement. Unfortunately, whoever over reacted, one or four doesn't matter to the dead guys family. Can't help wondering though if the cop who fired 31 rounds had to reload at some point, or more than once unless he had something with a bannana clip. In which case, if he did reload, surely there is the time to cool off and assess the situation with regards to officer safety. As people have said though, the truth will dribble out and in two months it will be forgotten. Nobody will be charged and race relations will take yet another step backward.
