I know that my options are limited at the moment for moving to the US. I don't have a partner who is a USC. I have a History degree but I doubt whether that will get me far. I want to go into teaching. At the moment I'm a Teaching Assistant and I could do my training ASAP - hopefully being a teacher would improve my chances of getting an H1B. failing that, get a job in a UK office which has a US office!
One question I did have though. If i got the job I'm applying for as a Cultural Representative in Epcot at Disney World, I'd be out there for a year on a J-1 visa. Will this open some doors of opportunity for me? Could I apply for some jobs whilst I'm working at Disney with some companies who would pay for my H1B once my Disney job has ended? Or is that unrealistic?

There is a good chance you would have to re-qualify to get a teaching job anyway. You need to check this out state by state.

Yeah I have looked into this. The PGCE is recognised in the US I believe, but the GTP isn't. So I'll aim to do a PGCE!

Catch 22 - you won't be able to move there without the visa. Unless you can somehow afford the arm, leg and testicles it would cost you to study there, then you can.

What about somehow getting a H1B for a job and working until I achieve GC/Citizenship and then doing the teacher training? Foreign student tuition fees are killers.

My dreams of finishing my degree were shattered when I came here - the only option is community college and you try finding one that offers a degree in a hard science

Don't mean to piss on your parade, mate, but I don't want you to be ill-informed either

Aye, you could do it, but even for residents, it's still expensive, I won't lie to you.

I meant, if he was successful in his H1B venture, should have pointed that out.
Community college being the only 'affordable' option for those of who don't have a propensity for feeling blokes up in a shower room, of course.

What about if i get the yer in Disney in Florida on the J-1? Will that make things any easier for me, apart from meeting a female USC?

No it's fine, I appreciate the honesty! I'm an optimist though and I can't believe for a second that it's impossible to get out there permanently!

Employment based visa is about your only option here, and while not impossible, it isn't going to be easy in today's job market.
