Open University
Does anyone know if there is a similar thing in the US?
I've been studying psychology in the UK via OU, and would love to continue with a similar course in the US.
Also Im on a H4 i'm guessing studying like this would be allowed

But.... University of Pheonix is a bloody joke. It is hardly comparable to the OU.

Have you considered simply continuing with your OU course?

Re: Open University
I would second this, if at all possible. Price is one important factor - I doubt you'll find any colleges in the US that are anywhere near as cheap as UK ones.
Also, well done for mentioning your visa. Sod's law states that nobody will answer that part of your question (sorry, I have no idea).
I'd got that impression. Is there a league table, or at least a list of the rubbish ones?

Look to local, state colleges. They often have very flexible options. After a year here, you might qualify for the much cheaper in-state rates.

Thanks, i finished my last OU course six months ago, so not currently doing a course, I will enquire locally and see what I can find

You can study with the Ou overseas, but the cost goes up. Of course, studying locally may give you a bit more of social interaction

Re: Open University
University of London is also an option, and they do offer courses worldwide:

If the intend is to use the degree professionally in the US, look at recognition issues.
As for OU study, bear in mind that getting credit transfer for incomplete qualifications is usually more difficult than credit for complete ones.

A lot of the online courses in the US are a joke, just paper qualifications that don't mean much.
London Uni mentioned is a good option...the missus just finished doing her masters through Kings, very good stuff, lot cheaper than doing it locally too, £3K v $20K a year had she done something similar in Northeastern in Boston....that was part time so over 3 years, can get it done sooner if you wanted to do it full time.

Isn't that the point about the ongoing chatter about the useless jobs that require a 'degree' then? It's why the whole thing is a joke. You don't really 'need' the degree to do the job, but you need it to get one. And the employer doesn't care if it's gained from a meaningless paper mill.

If you have a degree from a proper well-known university, that is infinitely more valuable than University of Phoenix.
Getting a degree from University of Phoenix is a bit like getting a gondola ride in Vegas and saying you've been to Venice.
It's the scientology of further education. Ubiquitous, yet totally lacking in character or value. It exists solely to suck the money out of idiots. Worthless.
Bunch of charlatans.
