As the test mostly involves driving about half a mile, turning right, driving half a mile, doing a 3 point turn, driving half a mile and reversing into an imaginary space and then returning to the start, I doubt anyone needs that long to learn LOL

I didn't do any of that apart from the "turn right".

Once round the block... Done.

I am feeling happier about getting the license now.

It still pays to study.

Just got back from a trip to the DMV here in LA. Two Brits in succession came in having just failed their road test.

Did they forget their guide dog or something?

Poor guys. Probably assumed they would breeze through without any effort.

I think there are some nuances the local driving instructors can help with:
When I took my test in NY I was told that one tester would fail me if I put my right arm over the seat when looking back and reversing, but that a different tester would fail me if I did not. When my tester was assigned, the instructor gave me the wink and the nod etc...

Probably thought that being a sloppy as the locals was OK, esp with something like STOP signs. Just because the standards are low, doesn't mean that you can just fumble your way through test. All the same basic things apply as in the UK, like STOP signs, lane discipline, two hands on the wheel, using your mirrors, etc.

Probably didn't stop at one of those ridiculous STOP signs for the sheep who are unable to judge whether it's safe to pull out or not.

Never ceases to amaze me how cars will stop for even the most ridiculous of sign. It's drilled into them from a young age that STOP means STOP or something. Canada like them too I see. Why is that? Just what purpose do they serve?

We have stop signs in England?? I've probably seen about 10 in my lifetime.

I didn't get to do any reversing. I even asked if he wanted me to.

If you can see as you approach that it's clear to pull out, then go for it. I do rolling pull outs all the time.

Used to be "Give Way" signs around our way... I assume those are meant to be the equivalent of "Yield", but as I was never tested on any of them I couldn't really say.
