Let's hope so, we need some more European socialism over here.

Why do republicans always refer to Obama as wanting to turn the country into European socialism? Why not Australian or Canadian socialism since his proposals are probably more like those countries?

Because we're the bad boys and the US had to come and rescue us from ourselves twice last century...

Because it's a code-phrase for "failure". The US like to think of itself as superior to those European colonialists who they left behind, so although they could use practically any other western democracy, Europe is a more useful moniker.

Then I suspect we should have a another great relationship with Europe if a republican gets into office.

Europeans are considered more effete and unAmerican than muscular Canadians, and they don't know who runs Australia or how so not a politically useful concept. Anyone can mistrust Europeans though, especially as so many of them speak French.

Australia's in Europe anyway, right? :)

Yah, southern Europe.

I see this particular one is doing the rounds.

So, you’re a Republican that hates taxes? Well, since you do not like taxes or government, please kindly do the following.

1. Do not use Medicare.
2. Do not use Social Security
3. Do not become a member of the US military, who are paid with tax dollars.
4. Do not ask the National Guard to help you after a disaster.
5. Do not call 911 when you get hurt.
6. Do not call the police to stop intruders in your home.
7. Do not summon the fire department to save your burning home.
8. Do not drive on any paved road, highway, and interstate or drive on any bridge.
9. Do not use public restrooms.
10. Do not send your kids to public schools.

You forgot a few.

11. Don't drink the water.
12. Don't go to the toilet.
13. Don't use the airports.
14. Don't walk on the sidewalks.
15. Don't take your dog to the park.

Don't use the airport? The airports are private corporations.
What kind of a moron calls the police to stop intruders in their house? The police: only minutes away when seconds count. And then they'll shoot your dog for good measure.

The argument is asinine and a straw man. No Republican that I know of is calling for the abolition of taxes. We just don't want to pay an inordinate amount, nor do we want to promote waste, bloat, inefficiency or largesse.

I'm sure you know that if a government entity doesn't spend its entire budget, it will have it reduced the following year. Which is why they spend, spend, spend on ridiculous things.

Unlike in the capitalist UK, most airports in the socialist US are publicly owned.

So why the resistance to cuts in the military budget from all bar one of the Republican candidates?

I don't have any problem cutting the military.

They might be mildly annoyed, though. Especially if your preferred method is paper cuts. I don't care who you are, those bastards hurt ...
