As far as I know barm cakes (whatever they are) are from North of Coventry (which is in the very centre of England and is a Midlands city).

You could find barm cakes in Staffordshire, Derbyshire and/or Lancashire I would imagine. Are they like muffins or crumpets (which some Northerners call pikelets)?

I know Deirdre on Coronation Street has mentioned barm cakes......

Golden Wonder crisps are/were great, much better than Walker's but not as good as Seabrook's.

I call bread rolls barmcakes (chip barm from the chippy) or muffins and I'm from Stockport. However the best ones are Lancashire oven bottoms. My favourite snack used to be cheese spread on an oven bottom with a packet of Golden Wonder cheese and onion crisps.

Hubby used to work in Huddersfield and the butty shop he went to called bread rolls teacakes. To me teacakes are usually toasted and have currants in.

Aww - There's me going home next month hoping to bring back my usual consignment of Wheat Crunchies back with me.... Hopefully some of the 850 employees will keep the production line going for me....

Whatever happened to Ringos? Do you still get 'em? I think they were a GW product.

Can anyone remember those packets of peanuts (KP brand?) which were attached to a cardboard chart which was hung up at places like their local chippy or the newsagents? As each pack was sold you could see a photo of a pretty young woman coming into view.

As a hormonal spotty teenager, why would I remember that?

My folks had pubs until I left home and can well remember those. "Big D" I think was the brand name

Had to google out of curiosity, i was right.

they would hang on the back fitting next to the big suede (cowboy bullet) belt holding loads of little bottles of Angustura bitters (used for pink gins and hangover cures)
