CNN has just announced that the US is deploying a Missle Defence System to Guam, which sits about 2,000 miles away from N. Korea.

Looks like they are prepping for stupid stuff from the N Koreans.

I'm guessing the US is hoping the North Koreans do fire off a few missiles, it will give the US a chance to test their various systems in a real situation, without too much risk to world peace in the larger sense. Tough for the South Koreans, though.

I thought it was generally acknowledged that NK couldn't hit Guam yet. They couldn't even get a proper test right, let alone miniaturising a nuke to get it on a missile, that took years even for the US.

If they can put a ballistic missile into orbit, it has the range. Whether they can target and steer it is a whole other matter though. Certainly, from what I hear, putting a uranium based bomb on a missile is challenging because it is so damned heavy, but we may be about to find out.
