I certainly will miss them. For mainly practical rather than nostalgic reasons. Living as I do (when I'm in London) halfway between two stops along a busy high street with traffic at snail's pace, I would invariably hop on whenever a routemaster happened to come along.

Yep, there are new double-deckers and "bendy" buses, but none of them have the back bit you can just jump on.

yes, that's a shame then. I have to admit that it brought elements of both fun and danger during my time in london...

I didn't actually get that from the article - I was just assuming that's what they'll be using as that's what they use in Belfast now.

Ahh but here lies the reason.

A routemaster bus has to earn 2 wage packets the newer one man buses only have to pay one wage.
