I staed at the Americana Inn when I was in NY recently. I was only there for one night for a conference and needed something very central and cheap. It's an old building but they've renovated it inside and it's very modern. I had to share a bathroom which I was a bit nervous about but it was spotlessly clean. I booked it at short notice and it was really cheap for such a centrally located place.
