Clearly California needs new legislation that will impose penalties on newspapers and web sites that don't spell check their copy ...

... I expect that some state senator is working on it already ...

They seem pretty good. I'm amazed they are able to legislate over fast food.

I think this is just a waste of time!!

Another new law being served up in 2011 requires chain restaurants with 20 or more outlets to display their nutritional information and calorie count right on their menu. We asked local Denny's customers if they thought the menu change is a good idea. One father told us "Yes, kids need to eat right they need all the nutrition they can get."

The father in the above statement is the problem not the resturant he should already be aware and its an obvious fore gone conclusion that junk food is JUNK!!...he should already know what foods have nutrition and what don't FFS he is a parent.

I don't think there is anything wrong with educating the public about what they are eating. You might think something isn't the best choice, but be flabbergasted to learn that it actually contains 3x the calories you might have guessed (or more). I guess I don't see the problem ... if you don't care ignore the info and order what you want, if you do care, now you have access to the information.

I agree. In canada the nutritional value of food must be on all food (both english and french).

and its certainly long time past due to reduce the penalty for possession of marijuana. Certainly the first step in the right direction......legalize it NOW!!

I understand ... maybe the idea is that you can make a slightly healthier decision or at the very least could realize that it's not kind of junk, it's SERIOUS junk!

All I know is that we have an obesity epidemic in this country, so it doesn't hurt to try this.

I suspect that the editor of our local paper may be moonlighting in CA.

That or there's more than one journo who's thick as pig shit.

I think I'm a pretty well-informed consumer, but I've been stunned at the number of calories listed for many items on these nutritional disclosures. And not just at fast-food restaurants.

Bingo. I think people might know what is generally healthy or unhealthy, but when you see that a meal is the number of calories you're supposed to consume in a day you might think twice.
