Netflix

I have previously posted how much I love Netflix & I do, but right now, they are really getting on my nerves. I ordered a DVD, it came the next day, as usual. We sat down to watch it & it froze an hour into the movie. We tried all the usual stuff, fast forwarding, skipping to next scene & trying to go back a bit, cleaning the disc, trying to play it in another machine, with no joy.

So I reported the damaged disc online & sent it back to them. 2 days later, we get 'another' copy of the DVD, only for the same thing to happen with this one, in exactly the same place, conclusion - they sent us the same DVD back.

So, again, I report it online, plus when I went to send it back I put a post-it note on it, describing the problem. 2 days later, we get 'another' copy of the DVD, with the same f**king problem. So I report it as damaged, write them an email of complaint, attach another post-it note to the DVD & send it back.

They reply promptly with an apology & a free disc outside of our subscription voucher. Another 2 days later, we receive 'another' DVD & guess what? Yep, you've got it, it's the same mother f**king copy!!! Now I'm really pissed off, so I report it online again, I write them an email again & I put a post-it note on & send it back, again! Here's the bullshit response I get this time -

"Hello Elizabeth,

Thank you for contacting Netflix.com customer support!

We truly apologize for any frustration or inconvenience this may have caused. We inspect the quality of a DVD before it leaves our facility and if it is not visibly damaged, we will ship it to the next customer. Unfortunately due to the heavy rotation of each copy, damages may occur. Additionally, the quality can become compromised while in transit, which is something we cannot be held accountable for. Our compensation for damaged DVDs is to ship replacement copies as soon as it is possible.

If you are experiencing difficulties with your rentals, you may report the problem via Rental Activity section. Simply click "Report Problem" and then follow the instructions on the next page(s) to report the difficulty you have experienced."

So, of course, I'm now furious. I write them another email, addressed "To someone who can actually help me". Again, I get a prompt reply, except this time it was very helpful, rather than bullshit. They have added 2 months of half priced subscription (so basically 1 month free) & suggested that I if I get the same copy back this time, to report it online as usual & keep hold of it, so that I'll definitely get a different one back.

So this is where I am right now. I have the damaged DVD here with me, I'm awaiting another copy to be sent out. It's been 2 days now & I bet they're waiting for it to be sent back, but I'm the person who has it, so they'll never get it!!! I'll give it a week & email again. I will not let this rest, they are gonna have to obtain another copy from one of their other offices, cuz I've paid for their service & that's what I shall get.

I'd try bunging it through DVD Decrypter to see if it was readable or not.

Snap in half and then return it, they definitely won't send you that one again and tell this is how you received it :D

'Five Children and It'

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0366450/

I watched the TV version when I was a kid & absolutely loved it, so I wanted to see if this one was as good.

Yep, my only real complaint about Netflix has been the occasional disk that stopped functioning properly because it was dirty and just needed a wash. One came smashed by the USPS sorting machine, one came cracked, and one, like yours, stopped working properly after about 70 minutes of play and couldn't be fixed. That one ticked me off, I can't imagine if it happened several times in a row! Yes, definitely smash it before you send it back!

Definitely!!! It's a top 5* family film. We watched it a few weekends ago and my kids loved it, even the youngest who normally gives up on every film after 10 minutes. We watched it one wet and windy sunday afternoon, it was just like being back 'home' for the afternoon. :D Every review I've seen on the net thinks it's great too.
There's even a cameo appearance by Norman Wisdom! Priceless!

I've not seen this version but I remember watching the CBBC series based on the same book some years back.

Oh yeah, I remember that series now, didn't connect the 2 together before. The Phoenix and the Carpet was a good'un too.

Re: Netflix

I'm going to try another response for you...It *IS* possible there is a bug in your firmware of your DVD player so the suggestion to play it in another player is a good one.

A DVD reader reads compressed data, TONS of it, as fast as possible. Like all disks, the bit in the middle has less surface area (track) then the ones in the middle. If it's a particularly long movie, then a combination of a firmware blip, overlapping data tracks and surface head (laser read), could just mean, this disk cannot be read in this player.

Just a thought, although rare, it's possible. A permanent marker pen on the DVD or reading the DVD in another player would tell you.

But everyone remember, even scratches etc., near the end of the disk/long movie can result in unreadability.

Is it just me or does everyone remember when we were first sold on DVD / CD's as being more resilient.

Yes, I still remember the first time they showed them on the "Tomorrow's World" program. They were putting cups of coffee on them and then playing them, among other fun things.

Apparently, that's how they made the first ones - relatively indestructible. But very soon after, the mass market ones were made to a reduced standard than the "prototypes".

I liked it because it reminded me of when I was younger. It's pretty funny, Freddie Highmore is very comical & has some great lines, just look at the quotes on the link I provided. I think the kids will probably like it because it's a bit of a magical/mystical movie.

It's not a long movie (less than an 90 minutes), we've tried playing it in another player & it freezes in the same place, so it's definitely the disc & not our players. They have been sending us the same disc over & over again, because after the first 2 times, I wrote down the serial numbers on the sleeve & took note of some marks on the DVD, it is definitely the same disc.

No, I thank you. I'm so glad that I pissed you off so much over your f**king inane binmen ramblinds, that after a few weeks, you're still so bitter about it that you came back in an effort to obtain some kind of revenge by attacking me.

I'd actually forgotten about you, you insignificant little arsewhipe and just had to do a search to remind me what a complete pompous perineum you are.

My definition of loser would be someone that is so bitter and twisted about something they let it affect their private life and they can't let it go........just like you. Do yourself a favour get some therapy. It'll probably do no good for your stuck up pompous attitude towards people that get their hands dirty for a living but it might help you with your pathetic anger issues.

Until them, I guess you'll have to be content with being a humourless prick.
