I could sit on the jury for this case, I haven't condemned him yet, I like to have all the facts before I do that.

They only cover the cases that they think will be followed the closest. So yes, I think it makes a difference that he's British, that he skipped the country, that he didn't attend the funeral & because a baby was murdered.

I think it probably peaks the interest just that much more, and he took off to the UK before the bodies were found. That and the fact that he was obviously leading some weird double life and internet porn thingy. It's all very "sexy" if you know what I mean.

Going slightly off-topic, Australia is another country which will not extradite alleged murderers if the country where the crime was committed has the death penalty.

I used to do volunteer work in the offices of the Australian & New Zealand Association in Singapore and the nastiest person I ever encountered there - who verbally attacked me as he was disatisfied with one of the adverts he had placed in the monthly newsletter - was a British man called Mike Townsend (an alias) who subsequently became a wanted man for a double murder in Singapore.....the victims were found decomposing in the tropical climate in his car parked in a shopping and nightclub centre.

The bastard fled Singapore with his mistress to go to Australia, where his wife and children had moved back earlier. I'm not sure where he is now, if he is still in Oz or if he returned to England, but the Aussie authorities wouldn't allow extradition to Singapore as he would have been hanged:

I am not sure what it is in this or other cases that draws the media- my pet theory for the OJ case, Scott Peterson, Elizibeth Smart kidnapping, Jon Benet Ramsey, Natalie Holloway or any other media feeding frenzy is that they all "Beautiful". You never see an ugly kid's face on the news when they're kidnapped, nor an ugly woman's when her husband offs them.

How shallow we are, or the media believes us to be.

Here's another bloody 'ell...It said on the news tonight that, on average, 3 women are murdered EVERY DAY in the US by their intimate partners...sometimes the kids are murdered too. No.1 risk factor for man to murder his mate- unemployment, number 2 - access to firearms.


Have to admit- only a Brit accused of murder here could get me watching that Nancy Grace programme, she, thankfully, must have been on holiday but her stand in was almost as bad. Mind I couldn't watch it all the way through- not even with the British interest.

Hubby always used to say, it was because they were young, beautiful & white, (obviously OJ was covered due to his stardom) which is such a shallow shame. I have started to agree with his theory. I remember there was a story at the same time as Lacy Peterson of a young Hispanic girl that had been murdered (I think she may have been pregnant too), although this story was hardly even covered.

This not purely an American thing. I remember in 1989 when a beautiful Cambridge Student went missing at the exact same time as an autistic girl in Devon. I was actually part of the search team for Jo (the autistic girl). And although they where the same age the Beautiful Cambridge student (from Blackpool) got all the headlines, Jo was hardly mentioned.

Last year that young pretty girl in Aruba got tonnes of attention, ugly girls that got murdered got zero!
